Modern place mats using curved piecing

image        Another fun modern design from the book: Improvising Tradition – 18 quilted projects using stripes, slices, and strata by Alexander Ledgerwood.  I wanted to make 6 place mats for our table.  I like curved piecing – love to sew the strips together without using pins.  I used an ombre blue fabric from V & Co. – check out Vanessa Christenson’s blog for ideas and patterns for using her ombre fabric. http://www.vanessachristenson.com/  .  I also used a linen cotton fabric from Moda fabrics on the front and a Hawaiian fabric that I bought in Maui for the back of the place mats.  To date, I have finished 4 out 6 place mats.   I used cotton batting and my walking foot to quilt the place mats.  Keep having fun quilting and sewing.  Donna    image
