Here is the row (Row by Row experience 2015) that I designed for the quilt shop where I work part-time. The theme for the shop hop is water. Since turtles are so popular where we live, I decided to make an ocean scene with turtles. I used decorative stitching to make the seaweed and couched yarn using a zig-zag stitch. I quilted the background before adding the fused applique pieces.
There are sea turtles who nest at the beaches in our area. About 20 years ago, I saw loggerhead baby turtles hatch from a nest at a nearby beach. Over 100 turtles hatched from the nest that night. It was a great experience for my boys and me.
The Row by Row experience is a nationwide shop hop during the summer (June through September). This year all 50 states will be participating in the shop hop. Participating shops will have free patterns of their row. Each shop will give a prize to the first quilter who brings in a quilt with 8 different rows. Check out the Row by Row website and have fun visiting quilt shops this summer. Keep having fun sewing and quilting. Donna
