Back from Nashville – attending Bernina University

image                  Earlier this month Sarah, Lauren, and I (from Sew Happins quilt shop) attended Bernina University which is an annual convention sponsored by Bernina USA at different locations.  This year the convention was in Nashville.  So we were off on a road trip for the 10 hour drive to Nashville.  We stayed at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center.  We checked in on a Wednesday with about 3,000 other guests.  On Thursday afternoon we had the opening session and registration. We took classes from 8:30 to 5 for 3 days (Friday to Sunday) about what’s new with Bernina sewing machines and products.  I took a fun class taught by a Bernina International educator using bobbinwork and made an eyeglass case.  I also took a serger class and made a table runner and another class to make a mixed media journal – used unusual materials to make this journal.  I will post pictures of my class projects later.                    image I took an interesting class called “Quilt out of the Box” by Luke Haynes.  Check out his website (http://www.lukehaynes.com/) and see some really interesting quilts.  He has one bed quilt (tumbling block pattern) with a life size applique of Ben Franklin.  When the quilt is placed on a bed, it looks like Ben Franklin is sitting on the edge of the bed. So Cool!!! Not sure how he did it.  There was also a vendor mall so we saw lots of new patterns, products, fabric, and machines.  On our drive home, we stopped at 2 quilt shops (one in Nashville and one in Asheville).   Keep having fun creating and sewing.
