Empty Spools Seminars – Landscape class with Lenore Crawford

Work-in-progress.

Work-in-progress.

Empty Spools Seminars @ Asilormar, CA was wonderful.  If you have never done a quilting retreat… I highly recommend it.   The setting was serene, people were wonderful and the classes… EXCELLENT.   I took a landscape class from Lenore Crawford.

We all brought our own (enlarged) photo for our projects.  Mine is a rusty boat reflecting in the water.

We traced out our pattern (this step took 1 day.. sigh) from the photo and then cut up the pattern (section by section – as you go) and fused individual pieces of fabric to muslin to recreate the image.   Once all the fabric is fused, Lenore uses opaque fabric paint to add highlight and dimension.

Here is  my “work-in-progress” quilt top and inspiration photo.   Note: these are large pieces.

Lots more to do, but it is getting there.

Happy Stitch’n,

Mary
